Stories of Movement, Migration & Home

Stories of Movement, Migration & Home is a project supported by the Heritage Lottery fund and delivered by Faceless for the people of Agbrigg & Belle Vue.

Between September 2010 and March 2011 we worked with people who live, work and visit the area, exploring the different heritages of the diverse communities there.

We visited groups, schools, shops and people’s homes to discover their personal histories and gather their stories about the area. As well as exploring heritage through storytelling, we helped people interpret their stories through art, drama and creative writing.

This culminated in a piece of community artwork depicting stories from the area, alongside audio stories, photographs and story excerpts which can be found here. A touring exhibition of the work created was hosted by Agbrigg & Belle Vue Community Centre, Sandal Magna School, St Catherine's Church Centre Belle Vue and Wakefield Museum between January and April 2011. Images from the exhibition can be found in the gallery. A book of more complete stories has been published and is available to those that took part in the project free of charge. It is also available in local libraries and through community venues that took part in the project. An electronic copy of the book can be viewed here.
